January 25, 2022: In history, on this day in 1924, the first Winter Olympics commenced at Chamonix in the French Alps. Known then as “International Winter Sports Week,” sixteen participating nations loved the event so much they convinced the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to hold Winter Olympic games regularly. The IOC retroactively designated the 1924 Chamonix games as the first Winter Olympics.
